Chinese New Year 2008 Celebration
Thian Hock Keng celebrated the Year of The Rat on Chinese New Year’s Eve(6 Feb). Prayers for prosperity, good fortune and blessings for the New Year were held. Devotees also obtained a limited Mazu Fortune Red Packet for keepsake.







On the evening of the 8th Day (14 Feb), prayers to the Heavenly Jade Emperor was held to celebrate the birth of the Heavenly Jade Emperor. To follow tradition, offering must be prepared for the Heavenly Jade Emperor:
Celebrations for Lunar New Year culminated on the 15th Day (21 Feb) with a street festival featuring traditional food and handicraft stalls lining Telok Ayer Street.? A mass wedding ceremony was also held that day for 6 newlywed couples and 33 couples renewing their vows. Mrs Yu-Foo Yee Shoon, Minister of State for Community Development, Youth and Sports, graced the event as Guest of Honour.
